SDFCU History

In 1935, originally named U.S. Department of State Employees Federal Credit Union, State Department Federal Credit Union was chartered by the efforts of eight employees of the United States Department of State. Now, over 83 years later, our membership has increased to more than 84,000 members worldwide. Not only has our membership grown, but our services have expanded as well, to include a wide range of financial products incuding; mortgages, credit cards, auto loans, share certificates, interest checking options, IRA's and more.

Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors consists of nine members who are elected for three-year terms and serve without financial compensation. They hold the responsibility of maintaining the general direction and control of our credit union to safeguard member investments.

In addition to meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month, Board members also serve on one or more committees. Committees are composed of Board members, staff, and members-at-large and meet once a month on a schedule that is convenient for everyone.
